Listen, listen, here’s a thing… you don’t have to have ADHD in order to use ADHD life hacks if they will make your life easier. Executive Dysfunction, regarless of cause, is a mother fucker that will ruin your life and make you utterly miserable, so if something helps? Good! I am so glad for you! Please do the thing! Life is hard enough as it is without giving ourselves extra invisible hurdles to jump.
So if you’re struggling? Please allow yourself to be kind to yourself. You deserve it, no matter what society may have conditioned you to think. You are allowed to not always be struggling. You are allowed to rest, and make things in your life easier. It’s not a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of self care and adaptivbility, and those things are to always be commended.
Reminder that neurodiversity is a spectrum, not binary. There will be some neurotypicals who have non-neurotypical traits and need help with those traits. It’s valid and perfectly reasonable, not “appropriation” or whatever utter bullshit I’ve seen some people saying to adopt the relevant coping mechanisms to help with them. And I’m saying this as an autistic, ADHD and OCD person. (Basically you should listen to thebibliosphere for she is wise).

And it was exactly someone asking me if it was appropriation to use ADHD life hacks if they didn’t have ADHD that prompted me to write this. It is not appropriation to adopt good mental health practices, if anything, please normalize these things! The human experience is brief and fleeting, if using an ADHD life hack will make your experience a little easier and give you more time for rest and happiness, for the love of yourself, do it.
